West Sumatra produces coffee worth describing by place. That is the premise of VERLO: the province is not a single “Sumatra origin” — it is a collection of origins with names, and those names should carry the documentation.
Where West Sumatra fits
West Sumatra is a province on the western side of Sumatra island. VERLO is based and roasts in its highland city of Bukittinggi, at the centre of regional coffee activity.
The growing areas
The province produces both Arabica and Robusta. VERLO’s current range draws on two West Sumatra origins:
- Lasi — Agam Regency, supporting geography Marapi;
- Solok — West Sumatra.
Each origin is documented separately, and the two coffees are not treated as interchangeable in the range.

Coffee character by place
Character follows place, processing and roast. VERLO records these three dimensions separately and only publishes what is verified for the current lot. A cup profile from a cupping session is shared only if the tasting was actually conducted.
Processing in West Sumatra
West Sumatra coffees can be processed in more than one way. VERLO documents the processing observed for each specific coffee rather than repeating regional stereotypes. Where processing is not yet confirmed, the product page simply omits it.
How VERLO sources
Sourcing runs on supply relationships and first-hand observation. VERLO’s business model — B2B-first roasted coffee for Australian partners — only works if the information behind each product can be re-verified lot after lot.
