Kerinci is a towering volcanic terroir located around Mount Kerinci, the highest volcano in Indonesia. Its mineral-rich volcanic soil and high-altitude microclimates produce distinctive Arabica and Robusta lots that serve as key pillars in the VERLO Espresso Blend Collection.

Where is Kerinci?

The Kerinci growing region spans the high plateaus surrounding Mount Kerinci in central Sumatra. Coffee is cultivated across elevations from 1,200 up to 1,800 MASL, where cool mountain temperatures and steady rainfall slow cherry maturation and concentrate sugars.

Role in the Espresso Blend Collection

Kerinci provides two distinct components across the VERLO range:

  • Robusta Kerinci (Natural): Featured in Kerinci Noir — Bold Espresso Blend. This naturally processed lot provides intentional intensity, heavy body, and dark chocolate-warm spice depth designed to cut through milk.
  • Arabica Kerinci (Natural Anaerobic): Featured in Solok Bloom — Expressive Espresso Blend. Processed with controlled anaerobic fermentation, this lot introduces high-note berry aromatics and juicy fruit complexity.

Sourcing & Quality Standards

VERLO evaluates Kerinci lots directly through cupping calibration at our Bukittinggi roastery. By pairing Kerinci lots with West Sumatra washed Arabicas (from Sungai Landia and Bukik Gompong), we create structured, repeatable espresso profiles tailored for commercial hospitality.
